MAURITIUS BILLFISH RELEASE INTERNATIONAL FISHING TOURNAMENT
The Mauritius Billfish Release International Fishing Tournament was held from the 23 to 27 January 2020 off the coast of Black River, Le Morne, Tamarin and Flic en Flac in Mauritius. The tournament’s organizers Racing Republic and JPH Charters welcomed 40 Anglers (participants) divided into 10 teams coming from South Africa, Poland, Scotland, Lithuania, France and Mauritius.
Albert d’Unienville (Manager of Racing Republic) mentioned: “Despite the challenging weather conditions, the Anglers, Skippers and Crews have proved their talents, fighting spirit and passion during this edition. Many Blue Marlins were released, and many Marlin strikes-fights were recorded. We had great fishing days and all Anglers really enjoyed the event.”
Sustainable Big Game (Marlin) Fishing! Pascal Henry of JPH Charter, tournament’s Co-organizer mentioned: “Mauritius Billfish Release has been the first in Mauritius to promote full Marlin release since its first edition in 2015. The event is an IGFA Offshore World Championship Qualifying tournament enable the winning team of the Mauritius Billfish Release International Fishing Tournament automatically qualifies to participate in the world’s largest international offshore tournament, which is held annually in Quepos, Costa Rica. The winning team will compete against the best anglers in the world and will represent the Mauritius Billfish Tournament and Mauritius”.
The summary of the three days of fishing are as per below:
1st Day- Team CERTEX was the first to release a Blue Marlin. The final classification of the day placed SALOMA team as leader followed by CERTEX and URODA POLSKA 20.0 team. Leading Angler was Mr. Bill Duthie, followed by Mr. Vivian Serret and Mr. Slawomir Piotrowski.
2nd Day- Fishing was more promising with 5 Blue Marlin released for the day and a satisfying overall score. LT UNITED outstripped other teams with their overall score followed by SALOMA and CERTEX teams.
3rd Day- Lots of teams such as CERTEX, JPH MAURITIUS and SALOMA strike and lost their fight! Team FISH WHISPERER released a blue Marlin of approximately 250 lbs.
The overall score was announced during the prize giving ceremony held on Monday 27th January 2020 at Seeloy Island Club, La Balise Marina, Black River and the winners are as per below:
1st – LT United – Raymond Lecourt (Captain), Vidas Morkunas, Yves Lecourt & Jean Patrick Lessur with a total point of 2,395.08
2nd – SALOMA – Loic Serret (Captain), Vivian serret & Samuel serret with a total point of 2,320
3rd – FISH WHISPERER – Ian Koenig (Captain), James de Guardia, Michael Forget & Amaury Tenant with a total point of 2,138.94
1st – Yves Lecourt with a total point of 2,370
2nd – James Amery with a total point of 2,138.94
3rd – Vivian Serret with a total point of 2,120
